Off The Air

Well tonight is Off the Air at the Fat Cat on 10th St. in Modesto. My budy Greg is the promoter and the inspiration that got this thing going. He's brought some great music to Modesto and has got the local radio station to not only promote the show but play the music.

He's done some great things for Mo-town and I'm glad I get to work with him... and Modesto is LUCKY to have him.

Photo's.. EVERYWHERE

DSC_2476.jpg

so... Matt (Matt's Flicker) and I had been taking photo's for about 15 minutes before a guy came out and said that they (Brenden I guess) could not allow us to take photo's on the premisses. I asked him where the premises ended and made him point out the line... other than telling me that the curvature of the yellow concrete was there property line he could not have been more of an idolt. I explained that it's certainly NOT illegal to take pictures of anything anywhere unless posted that it's prohibited by federal or state law (and those are for national security reasons usually). I stated That I have that right to take a photo on his premisses but if he wished me not to tresspass that's is another matter... heh, I was roughing his feathers for sure. Matt took a photo of him which really pissed him off (he got a little mad but didn't threaten us to directly) and then he told us he would call the cops if we kept taking photo's of the theater even on a public sidewalk. I tell you if it wasn't late I would of loved to challenge him and may at some point... but it was late and I know my rights (and was cold and hungry).

Heh...

what sticks

I offten hear great thoughts as I listen to books while I work...

here a list of my most recent ones:

the weakest argument is the argument by authority

"evolution is the hand maiden of death" ismisal of the zensuni

"rattled the bars that were the cage of my existence"... the book of death, Lewis Black

Do you work to live or live to work... what's wrong with our culture?

Education and Health Care Shouldn't be at the Mercy of Market Values and Rationality... because PEOPLE are too far down on the list

Health is not for sale

POWER CORRUPTS... that is THE ONLY LAW OF POLITICS

if you could make a living while saving the world... then WHY NOT

Off the Air Poster Part 2

DSC_2199.jpg

The figures are pretty much done on this version.. tonight I have to do the background. Probaly going to do a minalistic watercolor that's mostly background. Hate to waste good paper.. it can be pricey and I use 100% cloth Arches (140lb cold press) for big stuff (like this time).

I was taking a break today and saw something with an image of Natalie Appleton.. as if she's famous. Yet I have no idea who this person is so I did the normal thing and did a google search (thinking IMDB would tell me more or something would jive my memory). I found some MTV thing and a wallpaper site.. so I click on the wall paper site.. and when I get to the bottom of the page I see this....

I thought it was hilarious... but didn't understand the why those two images somehow where liked by the same people... or maybe I just didn't understand what large breast and kittens have to do with each other. I know in a sort of aloof way that milk could be involved but that's about where it ends for me.

A Flicker Post I spent a lot of time on

    DSC_1544.jpg

So I spent a lot of time and thought on this.. Just like I would on any purchase.. here's my train of thought and a post on/in flickr:

You all have me convinced.. I want to sell my kit:
I see it gos for around $300 on ebay

So say I come up with another $100 or $200

Now I have $500.. what would you get?

I want something comparable in numbers but obviously better quality... I wish that would pay for something that was 18-70 2.8 but I don't think it's likely.

Here's what I found at B & H for under $500 or close that would be an upgrade I think:

  • Nikon 28-70 2.8 $449 (w/ rebate)

  • Sigma 20-40 2.8 $479

  • Sigma 24-60 2.8 $379

  • Sigma 24-70 2.8 $399

  • Sigma 28-702.8 $309

  • ok.. although most are sigma.. I'm really going to miss the 18mm on the kit.. I've grown to love how wide it is.

which one would you choose (oh, and I'll miss any mm that the kit doesn't have but if it's noticeably faster I could live with it)
