SF on a Sunny Sunday

Had a great day out shooting on Sunday... pitcher of Stella and walking, here's a cross sampling:

poem

not so safe harbor of sleep
by atp

there's something about the time before sleep
after the real world of your day
you can't seem to remember
to forget what haunts your soul

the space after bills, food and work
after drinks, friends, work and work
after the busy times
when you brain can't remember
...can't remember to forget

before the sweet innocent slumber
when dreams rule and reality dies
flying, diving, living in a world not your own but your own
but most importantly a world that has forgotten

unless it slips as dreams will do from time to time to time
and she creeps in under the door
through the vault
around the curtain
through the key hole

not a nightmare... no monsters, no death
just memories
but oh so sad, afterwards
your dreams, your sleep, your peace

has failed you

yet to get there...
a chance to sleep
a chance to forget
a chance not to remember

so tired

took this today at Tony's wedding... Great time out in the middle of nowhere (past Jamestown on HWY108).

It's 4:05 am... and it wound't be that late if the fucking time didn't change on me today.. tonight, whatever.

Interesting time, work today... road up wiht Forrest, then was the lighting guy and 3rd photographer in the wedding (fine by me.. no preasure). Then felt a little restless on the way home (got a ride with the Edwards). Did an hour or two at the Queen Bean's... had an interesting conversation about how hair is back in (not back hair but body hair) and actually finished a page of JLACLA#38... waiting for Jeff to get back to town.

So I ended up at my friend Emily's birthday kegger with Jeff Bonia (here's a flyer I wipped up for him using one of my watercolors but the text took longer I think then the painting)...
sapo-fairway.jpg

So now it's 4am-ish... going to the City to do photo's tomorrow with my Massy... can't wait just wish I could sleep, well I suppose when I'm dead...

It's 2:30 am.. and I'm awake.. but not wide awake.. thank god for Tylenol PM

So I will be a sleep very soon, well as soon as I can get my eyes shut and my brain to turn off.. damn thing won't stop.

Wondercon was awesome! Saw some old friends (thanks for drinks, dinners, ect...) and got to know a few more.

I did take a few pics but the best ones where of David Baron

I won't tell the details but you think somthing that has a shelf life of a year wouldn't have much on an impact a week after the drink by date.. but BELIVE me it had an affect.

D200... got it

So I made the purchase, local and just the Body...

The Upgrade rom my D70 is pretty profound. I feel like when I made the move from my Nikon 5400 to my D70 (from a point and shoot to a real camera)...

Well I feel that way again

D200 here I come ***Update***

So it's the D200...

I don't need the lens but my buddy does... so it makes more sense to get it with the camera to get him a deal.

can't wait but my deadlines are killing me till Friday or so

Picture 1.png

*****************************

For Reasons that are complicated I was going to have my budy Travis buy the camera and have it shipped to him, this was his response:

Broadway photo was a complete nightmare to deal with. They tried to up-sale me real aggresively and I told them I wasn't interested. He kept trying and trying. I finally just said he was being real aggresive and I would like him to send me the camera I ordered. He told me "sir this is called capitalism and you live in America" He then went on to tell me that we ordered the Japanese model, all the menu's and directions would be written in Japanese with no options to change to English. The only way to get the English version would be to buy the package deal camera that essentially had all the stuff he was trying to sell me earlier for another 250 bucks. It sounds like complete crap to me but I didn't feel good about it so I told him to fuck off and I would like to cancel my order..........

so we still don't have a camera

... and the D70 Dies

Well my camera might be dead.. I loaned it to a good friend who will pay to have it fixed if it's possible. It was dropped.. the shutter fires but the LCD screen doesn't light up and it won't recognize cards (read or save). There's no physical damage and I can't see what might be the problem but I suspect it's an internal wire / solder break (hard reset did not work).

Now I don't know if it is possible and I don't think I would want to spend over $300 of my friends money to fix anyway (I may just ask for the cash to put toward a new body).

I'm invested in Nikon so you Canon people don't even try...

D200 or D80... yeah I gotta buy soon.. Body only

I drove home from San Jose seeing one great shot after the other

Welcome back to San Diego...

_DSC4540.jpg

I've been back to San Diego for almost a week now and I'm completely beat.. working my arse off. I have 5 pages to do tonight including corrections of two books.

Even so I did get to have dinner with Jeff, Chris, I-Wei and coffee with Judy (but not at the same time).

Can't wait to not work a few days.. it's been non stop and well I'm bored at David's house.

This is really disturbing.. please be warned

The UCPD released a statement yesterday afternoon, in which spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein explained: "This is a longstanding library policy to ensure the safety of students during the late-night hours. The CSO [community service officer] made an announcement that he would be checking for university identification. When a person, who was later identified as ... Tabatabainejad, refused to provide any identification, the CSO told him that if he refused to do so, he would have to leave the library.

I guess he didn't move fast enough...

After watching the video I don't think they are upholding there policy.. looks to me to be pretty dangerous to go to the library late night at UCLA..

my dad his hobbies our dog and my work

so my dad has a new hobbie.. it seems he's collecting Horses.. he's up to 3 now (Dino, Princess and Barbie)

I was worried because he kept buying saddles on ebay and at one point he had 4 saddles and one horse. I think now he's addressed the inequality of that.. heh

_DSC2286.jpg

Cher was cool with them at first but I guess Dino kicked her and nows she's a bit wary of the REALY big dumb dogs

I wanted to go riding today but JLACLA#30 is due tomorrow and well.. I have to spend my day at starbucks, rendering and listing to an old spy novel. Man those russians where good bad guys.. almost as bad as the Nazis.. stupid terrorists aren't very interesting compared but I think the Chi-coms are coming around nicely and we can hate them soon.

Show and Tell

today I was "Show and Tell" for my firend Johns 2nd Grader...

They where pretty adorable and seemed pretty interested in how I made comics even if it quickly degraded into "can you draw this or that."

I did a superboy, batman, elephant, rhino and a visual explanation of the difference of Masks and Cowls. heh

It was great I and got to give them all my Cartoon Network books that I have been getting from my DC shipments. Then did a plug for my local comic shop.

I think that I hate children a little less now but would still not likely want to spawn one anytime soon.

Shoot em up

_DSC1103.JPG
I had a blast... literally on Sunday.

As I drove by the Mint Club (or what used to be the mint club I have no idea of it's name now) I saw some people out doing some pistol quick draw trials.

I stopped to take a few shots (with my camera) and they asked if I would like to give it a try. So I did.

I had a blast.. it wasn't easy but it was fun and I got a time of less then .45 of a second.

I guess they will be having another shoot on November 11.

If your interested check it out. I think they would love some new blood and well it is pretty fun.

Polarization runs deep and Seeing the price of WAR in Iraq

I listen to a lot of NPR and some other talk radio... and although this is interesting topic alone that I want to find more info about; different groups of people be them conservative or liberal obtain there news for different sources so they get different information to base ther judgments on.

ok, maybe just a blurb... basically Conservatives tend to watch FOX and listen to Rush, Savage, or similar radio. While liberals tend to get ther news form NPR, CNN and places like the New York times. So the theroy is that in the past we all had our different point of views but we probaly obtained most of our information from the same boradcast on CBS, NBC and the rest of the old media outlets.

Now... well I think I made my point, I think there are very few non-polarized outlets for any information even if its an ABC news broadcast taking it easy on corporate sponsers that are dumping cyanide into babies mouths as they sleep or NPR commending tree spikers for there kill numbers of loggers.... now those are both really outrageous and I'm trying to make a point not take a side.. infact I think of myself as neither conservative or liberal.. and certainly not Democrat or Republican.. "f" them both...

I think our current politcal parties have muddied the water and really are nothing more then mouth peices for there corporate sponsers... it's sad.

Republican's are no longer the party of Lincoln just as Deomcrats woud be scared as hell of Johnson.

But all that said.. I'm certainly not a radical! I belive in Air I can breath and an economic system that is self-sustaining. A government that doesn't make my decisions for me but protects me from people that hate me because I'm an american.

.... man ok that was a rant.. and I have a really good post that I want to put up about the cost of the war coming though but I'll save it for next time. Here's a hint.. think about all the federal funding being cut for good things (EPA's public libary, FDA enforcement of certain drugs, there's lots... and they all seem to be cuts to help the current white houses supporters).

Death, Taxes, Terrorism... bullshit

These two posts should make everyone wonder why?

... So these two post found on Boing Boing (among other sites) should make us all wonder why our tax money is spent like it is.

The first is a simplified chart of what americans should realy be scared of by amount of deaths a year (sources listed on site).

Part of the article: "Comparing official mortality data with the number of Americans who have been killed inside the United States by terrorism since the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma reveals that scores of threats are far more likely to kill an American than any terrorist -- at least, statistically speaking.

In fact, your appendix is more likely to kill you than al-Qaida is."

Wired.com Article

The next is a great visual chart our federal budget, just click

What do you think?

If nothing else look where all our money goes... some people would say its to keep the status quo... is it realy worth keeping.. can't that money be spent better?

Hell If I know... it just seems like we spend more money keeping people from what we have and it would be cheaper to spend it on making EVERYONE happy...

Cleaner Energy
Combat Disease
Fight Hunger
Stop Homelessness
Stop Child Labor
Rouge Asteroids

ok, enough.. time to slip back into the apathy that gets me through my days (and everyone elses).

Books in Omaha

_DSC0073.jpg

Jackson Street Booksellers in Omaha NE is probaly the coolest book store I've ever been to. They did overcharge me by accident and it'll get cleared up for sure but I think it's just added to it's charm... go there and sort though the stacks and stacks of books for some great out of print and hard to find treasures. I held myself back and only bought 3 books... a book on Russian Art, Asian wash paintings and a book on Fashion design which will probably end up with Tawny. I did look or a book on loral patterns but my bladder got the best of me and I had to take off

Weekend Over

Wow what a weekend and a week leading up to it...

My sister came into town for her "modesto" bridal shower and I was the "photo guy for that On Saturday, here's the set:
DSC_5100.jpg

and then Ruben's and Megan's wedding.. I'm glad he found a photographer to do it (turned out to be Clark, nice guy from Modesto Famous and MJC paper)... even so I brought the the camera and did my thing.

DSC_5275.jpg

so here I am at home on Sunday.. slept in till 1 (went out with Stacy, Alice and Elisa last night for a few drinks) then did my other flower planter I just put in.. planted some Lavender and moved out the Tiger Grass...

Now it's 6ish and I need to render 2 pages before I turn in for the night.. so I'll take it slow and listen to a great Audio book about the History of the US.. total non-fiction history book in audio format.. man I'm a nerd, but it's good stuff.

.. work, work, work

SICK

man I am sick right now...

It's pretty bad but I'm still getting some work done here...

I think I either caught TB from going to the "BINS" in Santa Cruz or a crazy flu bug.. maybe the first avian human strain.. not sure yet, but I've spent more time in bed over the last 3 days then out of it.

Monday, April 03, 2006

back from SC

DSC_4756.jpg
I had a great trip to Santa Cruz with Julie.. it was lots of fun and we did the "bins" two days in a row... paid $15 total

check out the swag (notes on my flickr pages)
DSC_4759.jpg

Santa Cruz was great on Saturday... Julie and I headed over around 9am and arrived to a beautiful Sunny Day.. we walked did the late bins.. Tawny made some awesome scones... then later I had an awesome Steak dinner at the Red Room... yeah awesome, made everyone try it and they where equally impressed. The day had a wierd note, some old lady tried to get in a fight with us because she didn't like the way we got in line. The Bins require you to buy a ticked ($2.50) and then go stand in line if your early. Well Phil and I stood in line... some people got in line after us and then Julie and Tawny got in line with us. Some lady came up to Tawny and told her that they "have rules" here... heh, she was just mad that we where closer to the junk than she was.. what a bitch I thought... well Tawny and Julie graciously moved to the back of them. When another lady.. her friend started talking about how some people are SO RUDE... basicaly talking about us like we weren't there but it was obviously about us. Tawny was great... she replied; "what I think is rude, is talking about people as if they weren't there yet they are right in front of you!"... heh it was great

She kept going till I looked back at her and said "I'm not moving."

she repiled that I must be sooo special.. and I told her thanks for noticing.. that was pretty much the end of it.

but I still had a great time.. maybe even a better time because of it.. heh

Saturday; more bins and another awesome Tawny breakfast... love her food. made it home by 7 or so.

well all that said.. I got kinda sick.. throat hurt yesterday and I passed out at 9pm, then slept till 8.. ate some oatmeal and passed out till 2 again today, well drinking lots of water and trying to get back up to 100%. I'm heading to SF this weekend for Votch's b-day, APE and a trunk show... 3 locations and the hotel I need to get is pretty far from the events but near where V-man will celebrate turning 30.. man he's old... heh

Personaly I'm in a funk... but I think tonight I'm going to drink some of the main ingredeint to most cold remedies (alcohol but in my case scotch) and paint watercolors.

I'm waiting for a comic book to come in and it's late so I'm a little neverous they are going to give me some crazy deadline

sweating a little...

so I know that you should never do a hardware install during a work flow... well, I couldn't stop myself. That extra gig of ram and #20 gig drive came and where just sittiung there staring me in the face...

soooo...

ok, the 2nd Hard Drive was SO easy!.. man I got that 320 gig for $120.. and it went in like a dream.. everything I needed was in the case.

the ram though... errrr well it was my fault, I forgot that the Ram was banked so I had to put them in certain positions but it took a few restarts.. and yeah I got a little nervous

but now I'm sitting pretty with 2.5 gigs of ram and that extra 320 gigs of hard drive

otherwise... I'm finishing up JSACLA#11.. out of 11 I have 6 done and should have a total of 9 or 10 done tongiht (by 4 am that is).

Then I'm heading to LA for Friday and Saturday (staying with my cuz Doug and his wife Becka)

Then down to SD

Watch out here I come... and I'll get there, oild change and new tires so baring weather or freeway snipers I think I will make it

The Geisha I like... it'll get a good reception.
